Tchaikovsky's 'Queen of Spades' presented by Midsummer Opera at St John's Waterloo
An officer's obsession with the "three cards" that he imagines will bring him success and wealth at the gambling table has terrible consequences, and not just for him. In Queen of Spades Tchaikovsky produced one of his best operas, to a libretto hewn by his brother Modest from a powerful short story by Pushkin. Sung in English translation, it is presented by the company soloists, Chorus and full Symphony Orchestra of Midsummer Opera, conducted by David Roblou.
