The Noël Coward Theatre opened in 1903, originally known as The New Theatre. It became known as The Noël Coward Theatre in 2006, opening with the Tony Award winning production of Avenue Q which ran there for 3 years before transferring to the Gielgud.
With a seating capacity of 942, The Noël Coward Theatre has been home to world class performers, productions, directors, playwrights, musicals, plays, comedies, and premieres, including Noël Coward himself making his West End debut in his own play ‘I’ll Leave It To You’ in 1920. Other performers include Sir Laurance Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Ron Moody, Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman, and Nicole Kidman.
The Noël Coward Theatre is part of the Delfont Mackintosh Theatre Group and shows such as The Scarlet Pimpernel, Richard Of Bordeaux, Joseph And The Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, Oliver, Five Guys Named Moe, Avenue Q, Photograph 51, Half A Sixpence and Dear Evan Hansen have continued to fill the theatre year upon year.
