WHAT'S ON AT THE GARRICK THEATRE, LONDON
The Garrick Theatre is nestled in London’s West End, and is currently home to Unicorn starring Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan and Erin Doherty. Opening its doors in 1889, it proved to be a complicated site for a theatre after an underground river was discovered! Originally an 800 seated venue, The Garrick now holds 656 seats after the fourth and top gallery was closed.
In its early years The Garrick was known for its melodramas, including some premieres by W.S. Gilbert, who also financed the building of the theatre. It has since become associated with comedies and comedy dramas, including a four year run of ‘No Sex Please, We’re British.’
A Grade II listed building, The Garrick was purchased by Nimax Theatres in 2005 and has a rich history of award-winning comedy melodramas, plays and musicals, including Fing’s Ain’t Wot They Used T’Be, Sondheim’s Side By Side, A Little Night Music, Chicago, Let It Be, and Young Frankenstein.
