Following the split of YMG, Stuart set up The Gist! with his brother Philip, before releasing records under his own name as well as collaborating with artists like Lydia Lunch, Barbara Manning and Louis Philippe, with whom he has recorded two duet albums, the second of which, The Devil Laughs (2020), became a favourite of the BBC's Freak Zone. His songs have been covered by many artists, including Courtney Love's Hole (Credit In The Straight World) and Etienne Daho, who had one of his biggest hits with a French language version of the Gist!'s Love At First Sight
