WHAT'S ON AT THE LYCEUM THEATRE, LONDON
The Lyceum theatre in the heart of London’s West End is home to Disney’s The Lion King. It has a seating capacity of 2100. It is unique in that is has a balcony suspended over the dress circle. Now in its 25th year, the award winning The Lion King, continues to delight and inspire audiences of all ages with its charismatic colours, puppetry, and enchanting music.
The Lyceum Theatre dates back as far as 1765, taking numerous forms due to fires, threats of closure, war, and floods. It operated as The English Opera House from 1816 to 1830, and The Theatre Royal Lyceum and English Opera House in 1834. Grade II listed in 1973, it went dark in 1986. It wasn’t until 1999 that the Lyceum was restored, and The Lion King opened.
Bram Stoker was once a business manager at The Lyceum and it was where he wrote Dracula! With a rich back catalogue of shows, productions, events, musicals, plays, operas, and comedies, The Lyceum hosted the London Premiere of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, Miss World, Jesus Christ Superstar and Oklahoma.
