The Flatmates
1980's Bristol indie pop icons the Flatmates emerged from the same "C86 movement" anorak pop scene which also spawned the likes of the Shop Assistants, the BMX Bandits, and the Soup Dragons.
Their simple aim was to make classic pop tunes combining the energy of 70s punk bands such as The Ramones and The Buzzcocks, the cool pop charm of 60s girl bands like The Ronettes and Shangri-Las, seasoned with an artful pinch of The Velvet Underground.
In 1988, they reached no.2 in the UK Indie charts with the singles "Shimmer" and "Janice Long Sessions", while "Happy All the Time", "You're Gonna Cry" and "Heaven Knows" also reached the Top 10.
